We may be far from Atlanta, but SVRG friends and family are no doubt interested in the three days of hard-hitting roller derby that will take place in Georgia. This weekend, the Atlanta Rollergirls host twelve teams to determine the best WFTDA team in 2012. Formerly referred to as Nationals, the tournament is now known as Championships in order to reflect the global membership of the WFTDA. This year, teams from Montreal, Canada and London, England participated in the regional playoffs.
Regionals pit the top ten teams from each region (North Central, South Central, East and West) against each other to vie for a spot to Championships. The top three teams from each region advance to play at Championships to vie for first place.
SVRG was ranked 15th in the West Region at the time when teams were invited to Regionals. Many ... Read More »

The Silicon Valley Roller Girls would like to announce our 2010 season! We have more games this season for both the Dot.Kamikazes, including our first tournaments, and the KillaBytes. We will also be logging the frequent flyer miles next season, as we will be traveling from Arizona to Washington to Colorado for various bouts. But, three of our four home bouts this year are doubleheaders, so that's almost twice the derby! We also promise some outdoor bouts at Roosevelt Rink (TBA). Below, our home bouts are in boldface:
March 6: Dot.Kamikazes vs. Dockyard Derby Dames (Tacoma, WA) AND
KillaBytes vs. San Diego Hard Corps (doubleheader @ San Jose Skate)
March 27-28: Dot.Kamikazes compete in The Dustbowl Tournament @ Bakersfield, CA
April 17-19: Dot.Kamikazes compete in The Dust Devil Tournament @ Tucson, AZ
May 1: Dot.Kamikazes vs. Central Coast Roller Derby (Paso Robles, CA) AND

The Silicon Valley Roller Girls' season officially ended at the November bout, but we've still been workin' it out and taking any derby opportunity that rolls our way. This weekend SVRG members made appearances at Red Red Holiday, a mixed scrimmage hosted by Sac City, and a scrap team (translation: anyone who had the time & money to travel) meandered down to face some of the San Diego Derby Dolls.
Red Red was particularly exciting this year because we got to send a lot of our new blood for some scrimmage experience. In addition to SVRG vets Steffen Razor (Team Orange) and MisTits (Dark Green), five of our interns got their first taste of bouting: Bozo Disposo (Dark Blue), Cannonball Iztik (Black), Absolutely Scabulous (Red), Blanca Basura Barbie (Pink) and Catherine Beata Bones (Light Green). The ladies had a wonderful time, ... Read More »

Thank you to the ever talented Double Easy for the recap of our last exhibition bout of the summer! If you weren't there, too bad...but you can get your derby fill Saturday, August 8th, at our next home bout at San Jose Skate!
SVRG's last free outdoor exhibition bout of the 2009 summer was held
last Sunday at 5pm at Roosevelt Park in downtown San Jose. At around
80 degrees F, the afternoon was much cooler than those of the last two
exhibition bouts, which experienced approximate temperatures of 90 and
100 degrees F. SVRG had split into our traditional scrimmage colors of
black and white, but this time we had invited our friends and big
sisters, the girls of the B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls (or the BAD Girls
for short), to bolster our ranks. With both teams having 19 or 20
skaters each as opposed to the 10 ... Read More »
When the Brentwood Brawlin' Bettys said they were short a few skaters, some of the SVRG KillaBytes gladly stepped in to help. Steffen Razor, Aim DeKill, Mauly Anna, Zootown Throwdown, Postal Servix, CynTax, and Dirty Thirty helped fill out their roster so the Bettys could keep their date with the Santa Cruz Harbor Hellcats. Despite the Bettys' loss, the KillaBytes had a grand time playing with a sister league. Here are a few photos from the bout courtesy of Kelco in this Santa Cruz Flickr set. Check those photos as well as Nocklebeast's set.
As promised, here is the link to the Breeders' new video for "Fate to Fatal," featuring St. Louis's Arch Rival Roller Girls. It's treacherously cute and must have been a blast to shoot. Watching it is vicarious fun. Can I just say, though: leg whips are lame!
Congratulations to the Rat City Rollergirls! An article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reveals that our Seattle sisters have become so popular that they are now bouting at Key Arena, which has a capacity of 5,500. W*O*W!
