Congratulations to Patty Hearse for being July's SVRG Skater of the Month!

Here are some fun facts about Patty Hearse!

What is your derby name and number and how did you decide on it?

Patty Hearse # '74 – When I was younger I was intrigued by the kidnapping story of Patty Hearst from the 70’s. Look it up!

I changed the Hearst to Hearse because I like dark and creepy things and because my husband and I own a Cadillac Hearse that we drive around town.

You can’t image the looks we get when we are loading up the back with groceries.

How long have you been with SVRG? How did you decide to play/find derby?

Anyone who knows me knows that I've got a little bit of a bad attitude and can be pretty scary at times so I’d say I didn't find roller derby, ... Read More »

Congratulations to Beetlejules for being CJ Skater of the Month!

Here are some fun facts about Beetlejules!

What is your derby name and number and how did you decide on it?
I was brainstorming with my roommates one day while hanging out. I’ve been called Jules most of my life and I wanted to incorporate it somehow into my Derby name. The TV was on and the dinner scene in Beetlejuice was playing. I immediately thought of Beetlejules and it stuck! For my number, I was born on January 3rd  and I’ve always considered 3 my lucky number, so I decide to go for that.

How long have you been with SVRG? How did you decide to play/find derby?
I’ve been in the Circuit Jerks since April. I had recently moved to the Bay Area and was decided to try new things. Derby seemed like a ... Read More »

How long have you been with SVRG? How did you decide to play/find derby?

What is your derby name and number and how did you decide on it?Mad-Eye Molly #22. I'm a HUGE, HUGE, HUGE Harry Potter fan. It was one of the first names I wanted when I started derby but it was already on the twoevils name list. How long have you been with SVRG? How did you decide to play/find derby?I've been with SVRG since 2011 and have been skating with other leagues since 2010. A friend told me about derby and a week later I had found a local team, strapped on a pair skates, and...here I am!

April Official/Volunteer of the Month: Gary Ono

One of the biggest supporters of SVRG can be seen on the sidelines at every home bout and scrimmage. Gary Ono, one of SVRG’s EMTs, has been with SVRG since 2012. Not only do we appreciate the copious amounts of time he has donated to us, we are greatful for the wonderful care that he has given to skaters for their injuries. How did you become involved with roller derby?

Jeff Chung (one of the other SVRG medics) got me involved. It is the most fun volunteer gig I have ever done.  It is an honor and a pleasure to take care of you ladies.

April Jerby of the Month: Helen Back

Posted on April 27th, by Anaya Later in Junior Derby, Silicon Valley Roller Girls, Skater of the Month, Uncategorized. Comments Off

Although new to derby and SVRG 2.0, Helen Back is a name that you are bound to hear more of! Having just started in January, Helen is making amazing progress in her skating abilities from week to week, even with her busy schedule outside of derby. Her dedication to improvement, thirst for knowledge, and incredible footwork are just part of what makes Helen SVRG 2.0’s Jerby of the Month. Congratulations Helen!

1. What is your derby name and number? How did you decide on them?

Helen Back, 66. Helen Back is a play on words for Hell and Back. I chose it simply because it sounds intimidating. Like bouting against me is like going to hell and back. Haha. The number part is a little homage to Route 66, since I really really really really love road tripping.

2. How long have you ... Read More »
