Derby de las Muertas: SVRG's Last Home Bout of the 2008 season

I feel terribly sorry for anyone who missed last Saturday's Derby de las Muertas at San Jose Skate. What a night!

We kicked things off with some groovy tunes by the Whiskey Avengers, and a rockin' version of the national anthem performed by our own LTO. Then things really revved up when the ShEvil Dead and Silicon Valley Roller Girls took to the track. 30 minutes later, the girls took a quick breather while Kitt Turbo and the Notorious Miss Julie hosted a fabulous and silly costume contest, and gave away some prizes. We were also treated to some colorful Mexican folklorico dancing by Los Mestizos de San Jose.

Then, it was back to the track for the second half: SVRG played with heart and delivered some of our hardest hits ever, but in the end, the ShEvil Dead emerged triumphant. The Final Score: 126 to 55. Still, win or lose, any time we can get together with our derby sisters is a time for celebration, so it was off to Jack's Bar & Grill for an after-party to remember.

Big thanks to EVERYONE who was there: our vendors, our sponsors, SVRG Refs, and BAD refs, our support staff, our volunteers, Kitt Turbo and Miss Julie, Fun Duck Facepainting, San Jose Skate, SJPD, SJFD, the Bay Area Derby Girls, the Santa Cruz Rollergirls, Jack's, Coach Panda, Coach Brawllen...we are so grateful for your support!

To the ShEvil Dead, thanks for coming down and playing a great game!

It's a new month, and we've got some great stuff lined up for October!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so on October 11, we'll be participating in Knocktoberfest! a fundraiser to fight breast cancer in Oakland. Your favorite Silicon Valley Rollergirls will be present and dishing out our now famous spankings to raise much-needed funds for the Breast Cancer foundation.

Also on October 11, we'll be making an appearance at Jack's in San Jose for a fundraiser of our own. Stop by and win big in our raffle, or pick up your very own SVRG t-shirt so you're ready for the next home bout. You can even challenge a rollergirl to an arm wrestling match!

SVRG played the Bakersfield Rollergirls on their turf last Saturday, September 20. Though it was an extremely close game, we emerged victorious! Final score: 137 to 125.

This was an especially memorable bout for us, not just because of the win, but because we had several new girls on our roster last night. For these girls, it was their first bout ever. Not a bad way to kick off your bouting career, ladies!

A Big Thank You to the Bakersfield Rollergirls from all of us here in the Silicon Valley. Thank you for inviting us and being such kind hostesses. We hope you come visit us soon so we can return the favor!
