Whether you’re a complete beginner with minimum skills, a retired skater looking to get back on skates, a referee, a non-skating official or a more experienced skater looking to hone your skills, or if you just want to play non-competitive roller derby, this is the place for you! Meet the Circuit Jerks!!!

Silicon Valley Roller Girls recreational league, the Circuit Jerks’ goal is to provide a environment where all skill levels are welcome, a place where you can play light contact roller derby without the big commitment of a regular league.

Circuit Jerks FAQ

Who can join the Circuit Jerks?

The league is open to anyone aged 18 or over, of any skating ability who want to get in shape, and join a amazing group and most of all have a great time while doing it.There is no fixed membership as such, but you will need to do some paperwork your first time at practice, and you must have insurance.

What kind of gear do I need?

All participants are required to wear all of the following protective gear:

  • Knee Pads (must have white caps or be taped with white medical or clear tape)
  • Elbow Pads (must have white caps or be taped with white medical or clear tape)
  • Wrist Guards (must have white caps or be taped with white medical or clear tape)
  • Helmet, must be well fitting
  • Mouthguard, must be well fitting
  • Quad Skates (preferably with white or gumball toe stops)

You must wear all protective gear to participate in practices. NO EXCEPTIONS!
If you want to participate in scrimmages, please also bring a black and white shirt with your name and number clearly printed on the back.

Do I need insurance?

Yes. Circuit Jerks require that you have WFTDA or purchase USARS insurance. Please have your insurance number with you at all times. All insurance numbers will be verified. Even if you have private primary insurance, it is mandatory that you either have WFTDA or USARS insurance.

When is practice?

Practices are every Tuesday from 8:00-10:00PM at San Jose Skate.

How much is it to participate?

Each two hour practice at San Jose Skate is $10.00 per skater each time you attend; attendance is on a drop-in basis. The $10.00 fee covers ONLY rink rental. Scrimmage jerseys, insurance, equipment, etc. are all the skaters’ responsibility.

Who are the coaches?

Each practice is run by league member of SVRG’s including skaters, coaches and retired skaters. Circuit Jerks also have guest coaches from other leagues drop in from time to time to help coach.

What is on the practice schedule each practice?

Each two hour practice is structured around endurance, foot work, skill drills, core building, exercise, team bonding, and over all fun and a love for everything roller derby.

Are practices open to the public?

Circuit Jerks Tuesday night practices are closed to non-participants. There will be a monthly black and white scrimmage the second Tuesday of each month that friends and family can attend.

What is your Circuit Jerks Black and White Scrimmages?

Circuit Jerks have a positional blocking black and white scrimmage competition between teammates and also invite other local roller derby teams. Skaters that have passed their WFTDA minimum skills can participate. These scrimmages are held at San Jose Skate and happen every second Tuesday of each month.

Can my boyfriend, girlfriend, mom, dad…..watch?

Spectators are only allowed at the black and white scrimmages for a fee of $5.00 per person.

What else should I bring? What should I wear?

Skates, protective gear, a black shirt AND a white shirt with your name and number on it, insurance information, bring a big water bottle. Come dressed to work out, sweat and have lots of fun.
Some Advice – pants, shorts or tights that cover the meaty part of your thighs are perfect as they will protect from rink rash when practicing falls and slides.

Here’s what to do: Send Absolutely Scabulous a email at recleague@svrollergirls.com; she will send you the waivers that need to be signed and returned BEFORE you can set a skate on the rink. Waivers are also available at each Tuesday night practices. Last but not least show up with a great attitude and be ready to WORK!
